FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during an endoscopy procedure?
During an endoscopy, you will be sedated to ensure comfort. The procedure typically takes 15-30 minutes, during which a thin, flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) is passed through your mouth to examine your upper digestive tract. You'll need someone to accompany you home afterward as the sedation effects wear off.
How should I prepare for a colonoscopy?
Preparation for a colonoscopy involves clearing your colon by following a special diet for 1-3 days before the procedure and taking a prescribed bowel preparation solution. You'll need to avoid solid foods and drink only clear liquids the day before the procedure. Our team will provide detailed instructions specific to your case.
What are the signs of liver disease I should watch for?
Common signs of liver disease include jaundice (yellowing of skin/eyes), abdominal pain and swelling, swelling in legs and ankles, itchy skin, dark urine color, pale stool color, chronic fatigue, nausea or vomiting, loss of appetite, and easy bruising. If you experience these symptoms, you should seek medical attention.
How often should I get screened for colorectal cancer?
For people at average risk, colorectal cancer screening typically begins at age 45. The frequency depends on the screening method and your personal risk factors. Colonoscopy is usually recommended every 10 years for average-risk individuals. Those with a family history or other risk factors may need earlier or more frequent screening.
What dietary changes can help manage GERD symptoms?
For managing GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), dietary modifications include avoiding trigger foods such as spicy foods, citrus, tomato-based products, fatty or fried foods, chocolate, mint, and carbonated beverages. Eating smaller, more frequent meals, avoiding eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, and maintaining a healthy weight can also help reduce symptoms.
How is Hepatitis C treated?
Hepatitis C is typically treated with direct-acting antiviral (DAA) medications. These oral medications are highly effective with cure rates over 95% for most patients and have fewer side effects compared to older treatments. Treatment duration usually ranges from 8-12 weeks depending on various factors including the virus genotype and liver condition.
